Happy Festivus!

Growing up, Christmastime was always my favorite time of the year… school was out for winter break, holiday parties were in full-swing, our house was so beautifully decorated with festive lights and a perfect tree and the countdown to Christmas Day was much anticipated. This year Christmas kind of snuck up on me and my usual holiday anticipation has been minimal, but I am looking forward to spending much-needed quality time with my parents & my dog, and recharging for the new year. I wish I still had that exuberant Christmas spirit from when I was young, but that’s unrealistic as I grow older and become less naïve.
When I was a young girl, every Christmas Eve my mom and I would sprinkle sugar and scatter carrots outside our backyard patio for Santa’s reindeer, and we would leave out chocolate chip cookies and milk for ol’ St. Nick himself. And of course, on Christmas morning, I couldn’t contain my excitement while opening presents that had magically appeared under our Christmas tree. I don’t remember when exactly, but once I learned the truth about Santa (still upset about this btw), it became obvious that my mom and dad had bought and hidden all the presents, eaten the cookies and managed to get rid of all the carrot and sugar remnants without waking me up. Pretty impressive, if you ask me.
One thing I have noticed is that each year I’m more excited to give presents to my family than receive them… and not that I want or will be having children any time soon, but I genuinely cannot wait to spend Christmas with my little ones someday and see the same excitement and thrill in their eyes on Christmas morning that I used to get.
This year we will be spending Christmas Eve with my mom’s extended family, and although it will be very casual evening, I always enjoy dressing up for the holidays. For tonight’s dinner, I chose to pair a classic knit long-sleeve turtleneck silhouette in a beautiful festive red with a studded black suede skirt from Express, black tights, holiday socks from Urban Outfitters and simple black boots from Juicy Couture. This look is simple enough for a casual family dinner, with just the right amount of holiday pizzazz.
Wishing you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas. xoxo
