Packing for New York Fashion Week

On Wednesday, I’ll be hopping on a plane back to NYC to fulfill a life-long dream of mine: to attend New York Fashion Week.

I am feeling ALL of the emotions: anticipation, excited, nervous, slightly unprepared?… mostly because I have no idea what to expect. But since this is my first time, I’m giving myself some slack and will use this trip as a learning experience. My goal is to attend a few of the smaller designer shows and events, meet with industry professionals and fellow bloggers, take the opportunity to rock some bold, unique outfits and create some fantastic content. And of course, during my trip I’ll be documenting my experience heavily (follow me on IG for live updates!) and will certainly write about everything I learned upon my return. Attending NYFW has been on my bucket list for years; I’m going to try not to get overwhelmed and just enjoy every moment.

Other than staying on top of show schedules and networking, the most important part of my trip is what I’ll be wearing. The weather in NYC in September is still hot and muggy, so packing layers isn’t necessary, but there’s a chance of rain and thunderstorms for which I’ll have to plan accordingly. I’ll be in the city for 11 days, but most days I’ll probably need to go through 2-3 outfit changes, depending on that day’s schedule. Comfortable shoes are essential – I am so happy that sneakers are just as in-style as heels these days. Most of what I packed can be mix and matched, with a few statement pieces that I’ll wear only to shows or formal events. It’s a complete hodgepodge of bright colors, bold prints and textures. Lots of animal print, metallics, forest green, mustard yellow, pops of red and sport-inspired street wear. Anything goes at fashion week. I can’t wait to share the outfits I assemble from this lot.

Here’s what I packed (just clothing & shoes):

Did I overpack? Probably. I always do. But I also always forget to pack something, like a key staple piece or, like, socks. But thankfully I’ll be staying in the heart of the Soho shopping district should I need anything. I’m sure I’ll come back with one or two or ten new pieces to add to my closet.

And I know what you’re thinking… HOW does all that fit in your suitcase? Well it does. Barely 🙂

As always, thank you for reading!! XOXO
