The Mesh Movement

Mesh garments are all the rage right now. I remember about a year ago I was in Urban Outfitters and tried on a sheer mesh top for the first time. Maybe it was the dim lighting in that dressing room or the strange cut of the shirt on my body, but I wasn’t completely sold on the style and passed on the purchase. But since that day the transparent trend has haunted me, showing up uninvited in my fashion dreams and on my Instagram feed. It was about time I gave it another go.

You’ll see mesh garments make a strong appearance in several of my next posts. It was all about finding the right styles and I was hooked on the trend. Mesh is ideal for summer time – lightweight, airy, a perfect layering piece designed for aesthetic, not warmth. Mesh tops especially are modest yet playful at the same time; you can show off your figure without exposing too much skin. They’re also versatile, a mesh garment can be glamorous, preppy, sporty or edgy depending on how you decide to style it. And, as long as your outfit isn’t too scandalous, you can certainly get away with wearing mesh in the workplace.

My latest mesh obsession is this iridescent t-shirt silhouette from Romwe (find it here). The light-reflecting colors of the top are stunning and the construction is simple and un-distracting. For an edgier, street-style look I layered the top over a black lace bralette and tucked it into distressed, hole-y high-waisted boyfriend jeans with a thick black belt and scrappy laser-cut heels. For a more modest look, simply replace the bralette with a black tank top, or trade the heels for a flashy pair of sneakers. I’m excited to see how I might transition this trend into the colder months as well!

How would you wear this mesh trend? Would love to hear your ideas!

As always, thank you for reading! XOXO
