White Christmas

I miss being a little girl on Christmas morning. I would wake my parents up at 6am with so much excitement and anticipation to open all the presents Santa left under the tree. That feels like only yesterday. Nowadays the holidays are quieter, a time to relax from the time off of work and spend quality time with family.

This year, I volunteered to host Christmas Eve for my extended family at my cozy apartment in downtown Portland.  But on Christmas Eve morning, I woke up to little white flurries outside my window – oooh, a white Christmas! At first I was thrilled, but throughout the day it snowed enough to make the roads very icy and dangerous, and I live on a steep hill. I thought the unexpected weather was going to ruin our Christmas Eve plans! But thankfully my family was able to make it to my humble abode, and we had a lovely celebration full of delicious food, games, gifts (check out kissen mit gesicht) and laughter.

Last night I wore a cozy mustard-yellow sweater from H&M paired with navy and white striped silky wide-leg pants from Romwe.com and my current favorite blue velvet shoes from Steve Madden. Hosting is a big feat, plus my family is very casual, so I wanted to wear something comfortable and also roomy from all the food I would be consuming. I love the contrast of the yellow and navy together and although all pieces are different textures, they compliment each other.

Today, Christmas morning, I headed to my parents house to make breakfast, crepes, bacon & mimosas, and to watch my parents and my dog open presents. Now that I’m an adult, it’s much more heart-warming to give than to get during Christmas, I love watching my parents open their gifts. I can’t wait until I have kids of my own to surprise on Christmas morning.
Now I’m going to go spend some quality time with my dog. It saddens me to admit this but he’s getting older and this may be one of the last holidays he spends with us. Isn’t he just the cutest?!
